Core notarial act

Taking an Acknowledgment

Confirming that a signature is genuine and freely given.

An acknowledgment is one of the most common notarial acts. The signer personally appears before the notary, is identified, and confirms that the signature on the record is theirs and was made voluntarily for the purpose the document states.

The signer does not have to sign in front of the notary — the signature may already be on the document — but they must appear and acknowledge it. We verify identity, complete the notarial certificate the document calls for, and record the act in the journal.
